A mother's challenge to her abusive husband sends her family into an unsettling journey through the woods in Austin-based first-time filmmaker Jeremiah Jones's feature film RESTIVE. The movie screened to a sold-out audience the first night of the Austin film festival. Jones and lead actress Marianna Palka were there too.
"I sat down with first time director Jeremiah Jones, who wrote and directed RESTIVE. This dark thriller follows a mother trying to escape an abusive husband with her young son. During the interview, Jones explained his experience in the film world as a first time director with very few connections. He watched dozens of films looking for actors who were on the edge of discovery. Then, he contacted actors that he thought would be a good match for his film. The cast came together in Texas, where the filming took place. Jones said he was very grateful to his cast because they were absolutely fearless working with a first time director." -RAINDANCE TV

A long time in the making, and finally there: Ben Lukas Boysen sheds the Hecq moniker and signs here his first (and not last) soundtrack to a real, honest-to-God movie, and does it with brio. I haven't seen this film, but its soundtrack is an uncommonly dense and intense mixture of thick dark ambient soundscapes (think of Hecq's NIGHT FALL) with more modern classical elements (with a couple of nods to Ligeti, in my opinion). Encompassing, mesmerizing, crystal clear and closed by credits from Nils Frahm: here's the Ben Lukas Boysen / Hecq soundtrack you have been waiting for.
